The World’s Best Off-The-Rack Corset

Craving an authentic vintage look? The right undergarments are more important than you might think!

A good corset can give you that bombshell hourglass figure you’ve always wanted, whether you’re currently struggling with tummy rolls and back fat or have a lean boyish shape badly in need of curves.

After searching high and low, I’m proud to say I’ve discovered the World’s Best Off-The-Rack Corset. If you’re a first time buyer, this is the one you want, ladies. Trust me.

More, including video, after the jump:

Waist-cinchers and corsets have been out of fashion for a time, making good ones difficult to find. Starting in the bra-burning hippie-chic 60s, they began to be viewed as outdated relics instead of useful tools.

But the truth is, not all of us look our best “au natural”. Good underthings are designed to enhance our assets and make us feel sexy from the inside out. Bras perk breasts into ideal shapes. Corsets give even the most protruding bellies a defined waist. And if we want to strive for true pin-up style, it’s important for each of us to find what works for us.

There are three types of corsets out there: costume, off the rack, and made to measure.

The tip top of the heap are made to measure designs. These are bespoke creations handmade just for you to your specific measurements. My reccommendation: If you can afford it, by all means indulge. But for us mere mortals who don’t have thousands to drop on a single piece of lingerie, we will turn elsewhere.

Off the rack is what you want to purchase. Expect to spend between $150 and $500 for a good corset in this category. Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between off-the-rack and “costume” quality corsets at a glance, but the difference is huge. You may be tempted to purchase that cute little number from Electrique Boutique or Fredricks of Hollywood, but corsetry is not what they do best ,and chances are you’ll be left with wrinkling fabric and saggy plastic boning that doesn’t really cinch you in.

A proper corset should have steel boning. Also, when searching for a corset, the more bones the better. You also want double or triple fabric layers to reduce the amount of warping on the surface after you cinch it up.

In all these ways and more, the “Morticia” from What Katie Did fits the bill! At $240, the price is a little steep; but you’ll be overjoyed with it for years to come. This model is designed to reduce your waist up to 5 inches, and does it with no bumps or bulges.

The “Morticia”  is available in multiple colors in either satin or raw silk (both of which are beautiful) and is available in every waist size between 18″ and 40″.

See it in action in this wonderful video review:

So, what do you think? Do you already have a “Morticia”? If so, what do you think of it? Or perhaps you have a different corset style that you love. Is there another design that gives the “Morticia” a run for its money?…
